Express the fresh, creative sensibility and playfulness you knew as a child and the unique, adult voice that has ripened over the years. Our facilitator and Founder of the Institute for Poetic Medicine, John Fox, PPM, will lead us on a poetic medicine exploration intended to serve as encouragement and catalyst for your healing and personal journey. We will use evocative poems as writing prompts for our own creativity. These poems will come from people who have lived through trauma and loss and have discovered beauty and wholeness. Our poems will come from healing poets and from children who have so much to share with adults. We will slow down and in a safe place, make time to put your words on the page. Sharing our poems with one another will help relieve isolation and nourish healing community. This sharing is by invitation: reading your poems is not required. No previous experience in writing poetry is required. John’s gift is to make writing accessible to everyone. John Fox is a poet, educator, and author. His books include, Finding What You Didn’t Lose: Expressing Your Truth and Creativity through Poem-Making (1995) and Poetic Medicine: The Healing Art of Poem-Making (1997). His work is featured in the 2008 PBS documentary Healing Words: Poetry & Medicine. John has brought poetry-as-healer to communities across the United States.
